SHOW NOTES

Are you ready to take your plumbing business from good to great?

We talked to Tony & Allison Walley about their experience of going from just surviving to fully thriving, and they shared some nuggets of gold from their journey.

By embracing these three key principles, you too can create a thriving business that fuels your dreams, not your exhaustion.

Be the Boss

Many plumbing business owners get so caught in the grind of plumbing, that they forget to LEAD their business. Don’t fall into that trap! It’s time to shift your mindset from “plumber” to “CEO.”

Let go of seeing things from a plumber’s perspective and start thinking about the business side of things. Strategize about growth, invest in field management tools, and hire more people.

These small steps will help you get into the headspace of a plumbing business “CEO” more quickly.

Try to train yourself to let go of the technical side of your plumbing business. Remember, it ain’t about plumbing!

So stop relying on just your plumbing skills, and invest your time and energy into other more managerial tasks such as branding and marketing.

Remember, your time is your most valuable asset. Invest it wisely in building a sustainable and scalable plumbing business.

Take Action

There’s a misconception that successful plumbing businesses require constant hustle and overtime. This myth is just that… a myth.

Instead, prioritize your well-being, and the well-being of your employees.

Burning the candle at both ends will lead to burnout and demotivation. Set boundaries between work and personal life and STOP working 24/7.

By saying no to on-call, weekends, and holidays, you create a business that’s healthier for you and your family. AND, you attract more talent, simply because you promise better working hours than most other plumbing businesses.

This way, instead of living in fear of getting a call, you can rest assured that your plumbing business is being taken care of during the day, Monday through Friday.

Let other companies who DON’T value their employees’ time and health handle the weekend emergencies!

And don’t worry, saying no to weekends and holidays won’t affect your growth. It’ll actually boost it because it’ll drive your techs to perform more efficiently during the work week.

Tony and Allison are a testament to that!

First Impressions Matter

The way you present your plumbing business speaks volumes about your professionalism and trustworthiness.

Investing in your brand image is not just an expense, it’s a strategic investment in your future success.

Develop a clear and consistent brand identity. This includes your logo, website, social media presence, marketing materials, and even your uniforms and vehicles. No more dirty uniforms and old working boots. Your men NEED to look clean and polished, or else Mrs. Jones won’t want to invite him in!

Ensure your branding is professional and reflects the image you want to portray. Choose colors, fonts, and imagery that convey your values and speak to your target audience.

Invest in high-quality marketing materials. Brochures, flyers, and business cards should be professional and informative.

A clean and well-branded van is a powerful marketing tool and builds trust with potential customers. Because Mrs. Jones doesn’t want to see a creepy white van parked in her driveway. But she DOES want to see a fully wrapped and polished van!

Remember, first impressions are lasting impressions. By presenting a professional image at every touchpoint, you’ll build trust, attract new customers, and keep your plumbing business thriving.

By incorporating these three key principles, you can transform your plumbing business from a one-man show to a thriving enterprise.

Remember, success is not about endless hustle and sacrifice, but about strategic planning, smart decisions, and a healthy work-life balance.

So, ditch the hustle, embrace the power of leadership, and watch your plumbing business thrive!
