SHOW NOTES
How do you make sure that your business stands out from the crowd and grows steadily? The answer is simple: by being a better leader.
Leadership is not just about giving orders and making decisions. It’s about inspiring, motivating, and empowering your team to perform at their best. It’s about creating a positive culture and a loyal customer base. It’s about achieving your goals and exceeding your expectations.
But how do you become a better leader for your plumbing business? Here are three tips that will help you do just that:
Communicate and Train
The first step to being a better leader is to set clear expectations for your team.
Do your plumbers know exactly what you want from them?
Have you made sure they understand your expectations, your vision, and your ground rules?
Are they properly skilled, and have the tools and the training they need to do their job well?
If not, then you need to evaluate your team expectations and communicate them effectively.
Make sure that your plumbers know what their roles and responsibilities are, what their goals and targets are, and how they will be measured and rewarded.
Provide them with regular feedback and coaching to help them improve and grow. And most importantly, give them the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques that will keep them confident and competitive.
Recognize and Reward
The second step to being a better leader is to recognize and reward your team for their achievements.
Don’t just bark orders and expect results. Be nice and praise a job well done when you see it.
And don’t just focus on the A players, support and reward the B players and C players as well. Because they are the ones who can make the biggest difference in your business if you motivate them to perform better.
But don’t be too nice either. Be strict when it comes to your ground rules and don’t let mistakes slide easily.
Nip them in the bud and punish disobedience the minute it happens to stop the misconduct from spreading. Show your team that you care about their work ethic and morale, but also that you won’t tolerate any
slackers or troublemakers.
Network and Recruit
The third step to being a better leader is to always be recruiting new talent for your team.
Don’t wait until you have a vacancy or a crisis to look for new plumbers. Always cast a wide net and network and have a set of possible recruits available to hire for whenever you need them.
You always want to have plumbers interested in working for you, not the other way around.
And don’t worry about “poaching” star players from other businesses. That’s just how professional businesses work. If you give them a better offer, that’s not you stealing employees, that’s just you being fair. Just like they do in the NFL and the big leagues. You want to have the best team possible, and that means hiring the best plumbers available.
There you have it. Three tips that will help you become a better leader for your plumbing business.
By following these tips, you will be able to improve your team’s performance, your customer satisfaction, and your business’s success. So what are you waiting for? Start leading your plumbing business to success today!
