Thoughts On American Values From A Successful Plumbing Business Owner

(8:00) America really is the land of opportunity. I’m a redneck, white trash from the other side of the tracks. I started my plumbing business from my kitchen table and grew it into a successful, recognized brand. Now, I’m The Million Dollar Plumber

That’s what’s great about our country. You can come from nothing. Your daddy can be nothing. And you can fail many times. In America, you get second, and third, and 4th chances, and on and on. Our great country allows failure and promotes risk.

AND with courage, hard work, and the great values of America, you can succeed. I want to highlight 3 of these top values that make our country so unique.

#1 Judeo-Christian Values

(12:15) America Was founded On Judeo-Christian Values. Based on the one-true God. To be clear, that’s Christian values, from the Bible. Most of our founders that came over were Christians. They were a moral people and their morals were derived from the Bible. America’s entire way of governing is based on the Bible.

All of the buildings in DC have scripture or something pertaining to God or the Bible. John Adams, who spoke for all of our founders, was a believer. Our schools like to point out Thomas Jefferson didn’t believe in God. He was a deist, but he still believed in God.

Adams wrote that “our constitution” (what our whole country was based on), “was made only for a moral and religious people.” And by religious, they meant Christian. Our constitution won’t work without a moral people with Judeo-Christian values.

#2 Personal Liberty.

(16:12) In America we have personal liberty. Personal liberty is the idea that I have rights. And that the rights come not from the government.

They are God-given rights. This was unique up until this time in history. Our founders, because they were a moral people,  were the first to say that our rights come from God. (17:03)

Moreover, our founders intended that the government’s rights and powers come from the people. Not vice versa.

(18:01) Our founders were concerned about whether or not the common people could keep their freedom. Will the common people be intelligent and care enough to hold onto it?

Today we’re seeing people let go of their personal liberty. The people in power tell others what to do. And many people just say “okay.”

(19:20) Our nation was founded in the pulpit with pastors and in the pub with common people. The leadership and the intelligence came from the pastors reminding everyone of our freedoms. Then in the pubs, you had people talking with each other and discussing what’s happening and taking care of one another. We’ve seen a lot of this shut down.

This is why elections and standing up is so important. If you want to vote for freedom, for business, then vote personal liberty. Personal liberty is so valuable for your life (and for your plumbing business).

#3 E Pluribus Unum

(27:20) Out of many, one. That’s the American motto. America is more than just a melting pot of people. America is an idea. People from all over the world come to America for freedom and opportunity.

And they become Americans. We don’t need a bunch of terms to separate us. We are America.

We are an idea — a place where you can have a better life. There’s no guarantee that everyone is equal. You’re not guaranteed an equal outcome. But you here we have equal opportunity.

To My Plumber Brothers and Friends

(31:50) I have a plea to my plumber brothers and Potty Talk LIVE listeners. We all want to be free. I’ve enjoyed the life I’ve had because of the men before me who’ve had courage. It’s time to be courageous.  I’m always saying to the Plumbing Business Owners to “get comfortable being uncomfortable.”

The same applies here. Show up in your communities. Talk with the commissioners. Support the businesses. Buy products and services from those who need jobs. And always vote for freedom.

America is only as great as the American people are. Make America Great.
